Job summary

Grail is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and lead development of native cloud-based software powering the Galleri Test and related platforms. You will own backend services and distributed systems, driving cross-functional programs and mentoring teammates.

You will shape standards, tooling, and testing practices, collaborating with product, operations, and partnerships to translate business needs into scalable, robust solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, EE, bioinformatics, or equivalent experience.
8–12+ years designing, developing, and maintaining full-stack apps and microservices.
Strong knowledge of backend, frontend, cloud, and data technologies.
Experience with distributed systems on cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to mentor others.
Familiarity with gRPC, Terraform, and AWS is a plus.

Use your experience developing backend applications and distributed systems to build native cloud-based software that is leveraged by GRAIL’s key commercial offerings for the Galleri® Test , my.grail.com and provider.grail.com
Develop and lead multiple large cross-functional / cross-organizational programs with high complexity, resource requirements and associated risks.
Drive improvements for the software engineering organization based on understanding of business needs and industry trends
Provide technical leadership in the form of standards, tools, and knowledge requirements for the software engineering organization
Guide and mentor team members to provide an example of innovation and excellence

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or similar technical field or equivalent experience.
8-12+ years of meaningful work experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining full-stack applications and microservice ecosystems.
Excellent knowledge of:
**Programming Languages:** Go (preferred), Java, Python, JavaScript, C++
**Frontend:** React, Angular
**Backend:** Spring, Spring Boot, REST APIs, gRPC (preferred)
**Cloud & DevOps:** AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform (preferred), Microservices
**Data:** PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis
**Development Practices:** CI/CD, Automated Testing, Agile Development
Experience developing distributed systems on one of the cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Experience with writing and executing test protocols
Passion for designing and building practical high-quality software solutions.
Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with gRPC, terraform, AWS is a plus
