Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead a major AWS-based data platform modernization for healthcare data. You will migrate from MSSQL XML stores to scalable, cloud-native AWS architectures to support SQL-based reporting for business stakeholders and analysts.

The role requires deep AWS data service experience, strong SQL, and the ability to design data models and migration paths. You will work with a back-end C#/.NET team and implement CI/CD and IaC practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting and executing cloud data platform migrations in production environments.
• Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS experience across data services (S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch).
• Strong SQL skills to design relational query layers over XML/JSON.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and transforming XML at scale.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and AWS tooling (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy).
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows.
• Experience in Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and JIRA.
• Knowledge of BI tooling (QuickSight, Redshift) or similar.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of the healthcare data platform.
• Migrate from MSSQL XML object store to cloud-native AWS data architecture.
• Design the AWS data strategy and storage/query architecture.
• Build reporting/query layer for SQL-based reporting for non-technical users.
• Architect XML object store migration with optimal formats and partitioning.
• Maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize cost and performance across AWS services and patterns.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into data models and queries.
• Coordinate with .NET developers to ensure clean data flows from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure using AWS tooling.
• Apply IaC practices with CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform.
• Document architecture decisions and data flows clearly.
