Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (AWS Data Engineer) II to lead the next phase of the healthcare data platform modernization in a fully remote US-based position.

You will architect cloud-native AWS data architectures, migrate XML object stores from MSSQL, design scalable query layers, and collaborate with business stakeholders and a back-end team to deliver performant analytics for health data.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Experience migrating cloud data platforms in enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Strong SQL skills to design relational query layers over XML/JSON data.
• Familiarity with XML data stores and HIPAA considerations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Architect cloud-native AWS data architecture for scalable reporting.
• Evaluate AWS data strategies and storage options (S3 + Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Design and build reporting/query layers for business users.
• Migrate XML object store data from MSSQL to AWS with optimal formats and partitioning.
• Maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and back-end engineers to ensure clean data flows.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure using AWS tools.
• Apply IaC practices using CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
• Document decisions, data flows, and dictionaries clearly.
