Job summary

Amazon Leo is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Avionics Mechanical to own spacecraft electrical system packaging from architecture through flight hardware. You will work across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and manufacturing disciplines to deliver robust avionics hardware for a world-class satellite system.

Key responsibilities include designing packaging architectures, performing trade studies, and mentoring engineers while ensuring manufacturability and reliability in spaceflight

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years hardware design and validation for subsystems and systems.
• Experience moving concepts through development to deployment or mass production.
• Experience with cross-functional teams incl. Electrical, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD and engineering documentation; DFM/DFA knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design and development of spacecraft avionics hardware from concept to flight.
• Partner with Electrical Engineering to develop packaging architectures for boards, connectors, and harnesses.
• Conduct engineering trade studies balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, mass, cost, and schedule.
• Design qualification hardware, production fixtures, inspection tooling, and test equipment.
• Collaborate acrossMechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement design improvements across the product lifecycle.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise the technical bar across the organization.
• Ensure hardware protects electronics from launch loads, vibration, thermal cycling, and radiation.
