Job summary

Blue Origin is hiring a Principal Avionics Hardware Engineer to own the design, development, and testing of spacecraft avionics hardware across the lifecycle. You will build harnesses, prototype electronics, and integrate sensors for rapid iteration in a multidisciplinary ACE Formulation team.

You will collaborate with mechanical and thermal engineers to ensure robust vehicle power architectures, perform SPICE simulations, and drive hardware verification from board to system level.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of avionics and power hardware development experience in high‑reliability environments.
  • Hands‑on engineering experience designing, building, and reworking wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Knowledge of common circuit analyses (Worst Case, Derating, Power, Timing).
  • Experience designing for space radiation environments and effects on components.
  • Experience with various sensor types and analog/digital interfaces.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead design and analysis of vehicle power systems (generation, storage, regulation, distribution).
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test engineering hardware; build harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Design for space environment with radiation hardening to ensure reliability.
  • Define and manage sensor requirements and electrical interfaces (analog, SPI, I2C, UART, RS-422, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Collaborate with mechanical and thermal teams to influence vehicle layout and integration.
  • Develop schematics, manage PCB layout, and perform simulations for critical circuits.
  • Create test plans, procedures, and reports for hardware verification and validation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues across systems and support vehicle-level testing and launches.
  • Generate and maintain electrical power budgets by mission phase.
