Job summary

AVI-SPL is seeking a Senior Design Engineer in Wixom, MI to transform client needs into innovative AV system designs and detailed documentation. You will partner with Sales and Account Managers, lead complex design projects, and own design accuracy from concept to final deliverables.

You will mentor junior engineers, develop standards packages, review vendor and contractor interfaces, and help shape design processes across the team. Travel may be required for site visits and project coordination.

Qualifications

• Leadership to mentor junior/mid-level engineers.
• Advanced problem-solving and risk management skills.
• Effective stakeholder communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
• Self-directed learning to stay current with AV technologies.
• Proficiency in AV design/ configuration and CAD tools.
• Understanding of IP networking/AV‑over‑IP (AVoIP).
• Familiarity with AVIXA/ANSI/TIA standards.
• CTS-D certification and ANP (or CCNA in lieu).
• Four+ audio/DSP certifications.
• Valid driver’s license and driving eligibility.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Sales design and proposal support for large projects.
• Lead complex AV design projects from concept through documentation.
• Develop system documentation: BOMs, block diagrams, infrastructure plans.
• Coordinate with vendors, architects, and contractors during design development.
• Review designs from junior engineers and ensure adherence to standards.
• Mentor and guide junior/mid-level engineers.
• Support project teams during implementation as design authority.
• Share best practices to improve design workflows.
• Adapt to evolving priorities and project requirements.
