Job summary

AVI-SPL, a leader in digital enablement solutions, seeks a Senior Design Engineer to translate client needs into detailed AV system designs and documentation. You will collaborate with Sales, Account Managers and project teams to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with business goals.

In this role you will mentor junior engineers, review designs, develop standards, and own complex design projects from conception through execution. Travel to client sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Strong business acumen and understanding of the audio-visual industry, including trends, standards, and customer expectations.
• Leadership capabilities, including mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior and midlevel engineers.
• Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to independently address risks effectively.
• Effective Stakeholder Communication with clients, project managers, and field teams.
• Detail-Oriented: strives for accuracy in work beyond “good enough.”
• Self-directed learning to stay current with emerging AV technologies and industry standards.
• Proficiency in design and configuration of AV systems and IP networking.
• Familiarity with AV/IT industry standards such as AVIXA, ANSI/TIA.
• Proficiency with CAD tools like AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu.
• Full understanding of power, data, conduit integration into AV systems.
• AVIXA CTS-D Certification.
• AVIXA ANP Certification (Cisco CCNA or equivalent may be considered).
• Four or more relevant AV certifications (Biamp, Q-SYS, Extron, Shure, etc.).
• Valid driver’s license and meeting company vehicle policies.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Sales Design and Proposal Efforts with Account Managers to support large projects.
• Develop detailed system documentation, BOMs, diagrams, and scopes of work.
• Coordinate with vendors, architects, consultants, and contractors during design development.
• Review designs from junior engineers and guide adherence to best practices.
• Provide technical input during project implementation as the design authority.
• Mentor and lead the design team, sharing knowledge and improving workflows.
• Support ongoing design standards development and process improvements.
• Travel to client sites as required.
