Job summary

United States Postal Service is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician for the Virginia District in Sterling, VA. The role leads lower level technicians, performs the most complex repairs, and guides maintenance in a postal vehicle fleet.

Responsibilities include diagnostics, road tests, and maintaining maintenance records. You must complete required Postal Service exams and meet safety and background requirements. This is a full-time, on-site position with evening hours.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of automotive diagnostic methods and ability to analyze electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with automotive diagnostic equipment, scanners, and test tools.
  • Ability to perform parts replacement and repairs across multiple vehicle systems.
  • Accurate record-keeping of maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to work with others and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose operating difficulties on a variety of vehicles and perform checks on engines and systems.
  • Perform computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment and interpret trouble codes.
  • Conduct road tests before and after maintenance and document findings.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning vehicles and identify faulty parts.
  • Maintain, update, and manage vehicle maintenance records and estimates.
  • Provide technical guidance to mechanics on complex repairs and equipment usage.
  • Observe safety practices and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
