Job summary

United States Postal Service in Sterling, VA is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician to supervise lower level technicians and perform the most complex repairs on fleet vehicles. You will diagnose operating difficulties, run tests with specialized diagnostic equipment, conduct road tests, maintain maintenance records, and guide other technicians while complying with safety and environmental rules.

This role requires passing postal exams, background checks, and drug screening; shift is 3:00

Qualifications

• Observe, test, analyze, and isolate trouble in automotive systems using test equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical/electronic diagnostic equipment such as VAT, VOM, scanners, and gas analyzers.
• Replace parts and rebuild systems across engine, fuel, suspension, and braking domains.
• Record information and complete forms such as parts requests and ERT.
• Work safely with others and plan activities without direct supervision.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose operating difficulties on vehicles and perform checks on engines and emissions, electrical, and electronic components.
• Perform computerized and electronic diagnostic tests; interpret trouble codes and use wiring schematics.
• Conduct road tests before and after maintenance; annotate vehicle problems on work orders.
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning vehicles and identify improperly functioning parts.
• Maintain vehicle maintenance records and assist in training personnel.
