Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Senior Automation & Controls Engineer to lead design and execution of controls for EPC projects across multiple industries. You will guide PLC/HMI development, FATs, and commissioning, while coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team and clients.

You will oversee vendor engagements, design reviews, and field startups, ensuring adherence to safety and engineering standards. Travel to sites is expected.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree in controls/electrical field.
• FE exam passed and 7 years electrical engineering experience.
• Master's degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design standards.
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation & controls design on EPC projects.
• Manage and develop software deliverables (PLC, HMI, Batch, MES).
• Coordinate control panel and equipment vendor activities; lead FATs.
• Oversee electrical design deliverables and motor power design.
• Develop instrument measurement protocols and control strategies.
• Travel to job sites for surveys, installations, and startups (approx. 25%).
• Support project budgeting and client relationships.
