Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking an Automated Test Engineer (ATE) for a 100% U.S.-based remote role supporting Veterans Affairs. The candidate will develop and execute comprehensive test plans, automate tests, and lead verification across web applications and APIs.

Requires strong programming in C#, Java, or Python, and 10+ years in software testing with a Public Trust clearance. Excellent collaboration skills, experience with SDLC, CI/CD tools, and test management is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with manual and automated testing across web and IT systems.
• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python with a track record on complex software projects.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and SDLC.
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of SQL for validating data; testing APIs and services.
• Experience across functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT testing.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication and teamwork.
• Ability to work independently and mentor junior testers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures to ensure information systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
• Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers, Requirement Leads, Project Managers, and Development Leads.
• Perform tests on software/IT systems to ensure proper operation and defect-free delivery.
• Verify work products using defined methods and appropriate environment.
• Document and communicate test results; support analysis and issue resolution.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Occasionally perform other IT systems engineering activities (requirements, design, installation, operation, sustainment, support).
• Provide direction to employees per policies; measure objective attainment.
• Develop innovative solutions and future configuration models.
