Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead cultural resources projects from a US office. You will guide major archaeological investigations, mentor staff, and strengthen client relationships across the United States.

You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, support project delivery, and help grow ERM’s cultural resources business in energy and infrastructure sectors. Travel to field sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.
• 6–8 years of related paid experience.
• Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologist listed as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA).
• Demonstrated field experience and principal-level oversight for projects (inventory, survey, testing, data recovery).
• Experience authoring or reviewing agency-reviewed technical reports (NEPA, Class I/III, etc.).
• Ability to travel to field sites; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator.
• Obtain BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits and other federal/state permits.
• Provide QA/QC on deliverables prepared by archaeologists.
• Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (surveys, testing, excavations, monitoring).
• Lead and mentor archaeologists; participate in hiring and training.
• Coordinate with unit leads and managing partners to support delivery.
• Represent ERM in client meetings and with regulatory agencies.
