Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead cultural resources projects across the United States from an ERM US office. You will mentor archaeologists, oversee field and reporting efforts, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, high-quality deliverables for clients in energy and infrastructure sectors.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologist listed as an RPA, meeting SHPO requirements.
  • Demonstrated field experience and principal-level oversight for projects (inventory, survey, testing, data recovery).
  • Experience as primary author/ reviewer on agency-reviewed technical reports (NEPA, Cultural Resources Treatments Plans).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agency personnel as consultant.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams of archaeologists and other specialists.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites.
  • Experience with mapping equipment and specialized field technologies (total station, GPS, ArcGIS FieldMaps, Survey123).
  • Driver's License required: frequent travel to client locations across a large geographic area.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator.
  • Obtain BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits and other necessary permits.
  • Provide QA/QC review of deliverables prepared by other archaeologists.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (recon, pedestrian surveys, testing, excavations, monitoring).
  • Lead, supervise, and manage archaeologists across experience levels; participate in hiring and mentoring.
  • Coordinate with unit leads and partners to support performance and delivery.
  • Sign as Principal Investigator or Task Manager for major projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
