Job summary

Groundswell, a premier technology integrator, is seeking an experienced engineer to turn ambiguous business problems into production AI solutions for federal clients. You will work with stakeholders to assess workflows, determine if AI adds value, design the approach, build it, demonstrate results, and own it in production across the full lifecycle.

You will balance understanding of modern AI, engineering rigor, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of production software experience.
• 2+ years building LLM-integrated apps with prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Experience evaluating AI systems with measurable metrics and deployment decisions.
• Strong programming in Python, TypeScript, or SQL with API integration and imperfect data.
• Ability to lead requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery with business and technical stakeholders to understand the workflow and success criteria.
• Define measurable success, acceptance conditions, and deployment readiness.
• Recommend non-AI or simpler solutions when appropriate and identify the right AI pattern.
• Design architecture for where workloads run, balancing quality, cost, latency, and security.
• Build complete capabilities including prompt design, retrieval, APIs, data handling, and UI.
• Create evaluation sets, iterate on results, and monitor post-launch metrics.
• Mentor engineers, raise the team's judgment, and contribute reusable patterns.
• Operate capabilities in client environments with governance and traceability.
