Job summary

Groundswell seeks an experienced AI/ML engineer to turn ambiguous business problems into working AI solutions for federal clients. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle from discovery to production, balancing accuracy, cost, latency, and security, while collaborating with engineers, executives, and end users.

You will define success criteria, design architectures, and drive implementation of end-to-end capabilities, including prompts, retrieval, and interfaces.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building and shipping production software.
• 2+ years building applications that integrate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation, structured extraction, tool use, and agent patterns.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality, building test sets and metrics, and making deployment decisions based on evidence.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery with business and technical stakeholders to understand the workflow, decisions, and acceptable results.
• Define measurable success criteria before building, including accuracy targets and acceptance conditions.
• Recommend against AI when a simpler solution is appropriate.
• Select AI patterns (extraction, classification, summarization, retrieval, or agentic workflow) suitable for the problem.
• Make and defend architecture decisions on where workloads run (quality, cost, latency, security).
• Build the complete capability including prompts, retrieval design, API integration, data handling, and UI.
