Job summary

Independence Pet Group, a remote-friendly U.S. employer, seeks an experienced Analytics Engineer to own the analytics engineering process, building scalable pipelines with dbt, SQL, Python, and Databricks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, data engineering, analytics, information systems, mathematics, or related field.
• 8+ years of analytics experience with senior ownership of data models and standards.
• Advanced SQL skills and ability to design, debug and optimize complex transformations.
• Deep dbt experience with scalable model architecture, testing, and deployment workflows.
• Strong Databricks experience (Delta Lake, Spark SQL, Workflows, Unity Catalog).
• Experience with medallion architectures (bronze/silver/gold) and lakehouse data models.
• Strong Python skills for data processing, testing, and automation.
• Understanding of dimensional modeling, warehouse/lakehouse design, semantic layers, and metric governance.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, orchestration, and environment management.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical designs and communicate with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own analytics engineering roadmap, priorities, standards, and practices.
• Evolve analytics architecture across data layers (bronze/silver/gold).
• Build and optimize dbt models transforming source data into analytics datasets.
• Write advanced SQL and use Python for data transformations and automation.
• Develop dimensional data models supporting dashboards and data products.
• Define KPI calculations, data contracts, and data governance.
• Implement automated tests, lineage, documentation, and monitoring.
• Enforce version control, CI/CD, and environment promotion processes.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering on ingestion and platform performance.
• Translate requirements into scalable data models in partnership with analysts.
• Improve Databricks performance and cost efficiency through design and tuning.
• Lead data-quality investigations and root-cause analyses.
• Create governance and stewardship policies for data assets.
• Migrate legacy logic to governed dbt models and robust data pipelines.
• Design resilient models for historical analysis and evolving data definitions.
• Produce technical docs and enablement material for team adoption.
• Mentor teammates to raise analytics engineering capability.
