Job summary

CVS Health seeks a Principal AI Architect to define AI reference architectures across Aetna Technology. You will drive design decisions for model serving, multi-model orchestration, and agentic systems in a multi-cloud environment, enabling teams to ship AI safely and at scale.

This role emphasizes responsible AI, governance, and ROI, with emphasis on data controls for PHI, cost-aware design, and measurable business impact through standardized gates, paved roads, and executive-ready metrics.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in technology with hands-on experience in AI/ML platform and solution architecture at scale.
• Expert-level command of model serving, multi-model orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation on cloud platforms.
• Ownership of AI reference architectures and paved-road patterns for model and agent development.
• Hands-on experience designing agentic systems and integration patterns (API, MCP).
• Strong grounding in responsible AI, model evaluation, and guardrail design.
• Track record of driving technical outcomes through influence as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities

• Own the AI reference architectures - model serving, orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Define the agentic architecture: orchestration, domain agents, and reusable skills layer.
• Set integration defaults - API-first approach with MCP by exception and governance gates.
• Design and maintain paved road patterns for building, serving, and evaluating models and agents.
• Embed guardrails, evaluation, and safety controls into the paved road and governance.
