Job summary

CVS Health in New York seeks a Principal AI Architect to set AI reference architectures across Aetna Technology, covering model serving, multi-model orchestration, and agentic systems. You will shape governance, guardrails, and ROI-driven design, acting as the deepest AI authority without direct reports.

You will drive standards, evaluate emerging models, and partner with platform and finance to ensure cost-aware, scalable AI solutions across cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in technology with hands-on experience in AI/ML platform and solution architecture at scale.
• Expert-level command of model serving, multi-model orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation on cloud platforms (AWS primary; GCP/Azure familiarity preferred).
• Demonstrated ownership of AI reference architectures and paved-road / golden-path patterns for model and agent development.
• Hands-on experience designing agentic systems - orchestration, tool/skill layers, and the integration patterns (API, MCP) behind them.
• Strong grounding in responsible AI, model evaluation, and guardrail design.
• Track record of driving technical outcomes through influence and design authority as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities

• Own the AI reference architectures and paved-road patterns for model and agent development.
• Define the agentic architecture and integration standards (API, MCP) for reusable services.
• Embed guardrails, evaluation, and safety controls into the paved road for responsible-AI practice by default.
• Define instrumentation and ROI metrics, partnering with platform and finance on cost-aware AI design.
• Engage with architecture governance and senior leaders to communicate trade-offs and decisions.
