Job summary

Bank of America’s GIS team is seeking a Cyber Threat Defense Sr AI/ML Engineer to build and integrate AI into the cyber defense ecosystem, developing deterministic automation, ML models, and LLM-based workflows to protect the bank.

The role balances hands-on engineering with technical leadership, collaborating with security subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to deploy AI-driven controls, ensure governance, and mentor analysts.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on machine learning engineering experience with production models.
• Strong ML fundamentals: training/evaluation, embeddings, drift, and data issues.
• Proficiency in Python; PyTorch or scikit-learn; experiment tracking.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered apps and agentic AI systems.
• Experience delivering production systems at scale; data pipelines and MLOps.
• Experience with cloud AI platforms (Azure AI Foundry, AWS, Google) or open-source infra.
• Working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals and how AI enhances defenses.
• Familiarity with AI governance, risk management, explainability.
• Strong communication and ability to present to executives.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy AI-powered capabilities for threat hunting and incident response.
• Develop and operationalize custom ML models and LLM-based workflows.
• Match technique to problem using deterministic automation, classical ML, or generative AI.
• Build LLM-based tooling to aid analysts and knowledge retrieval.
• Partner with GIS teams to identify AI-driven security improvements.
• Prototype and evaluate emerging AI technologies for cyber threat detection.
• Collaborate with offensive security for AI-enhanced red teaming.
• Contribute to scalable AI integration architecture.
• Promote responsible AI with governance and bias mitigation.
• Advise senior leadership and mentor engineers.
