Job summary

EY is seeking a seasoned AI/ML engineer to build and operate long-running agent systems within Challenger, EY’s program focused on transforming services with AI. You will design deterministic workflows, implement tools, and ensure secure, observable execution across enterprise integrations.

You will collaborate with product, security, and evaluation teams to deliver robust, scalable agent patterns and durable remediation in production environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 9-12+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong record in software or applied machine-learning engineering, with ownership of production systems and their live behavior.
• Hands‑on evidence of shipping large‑language‑model applications, agents, or complex model‑driven workflows used for real work.
• Programming depth in Python, TypeScript, or another language used for production services and integrations.
• Applied AI patterns: experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Travel and On‑site requirements: up to 50% travel and hybrid office flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and agent architectures for deterministic steps or single-agent loops.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts, validated outcomes, and safe error handling.
• Engineer agent behavior including planning, routing, delegation, retries, and handoffs.
• Create durable context combining instructions, user state, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, and approvals.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for verified task success, tool use, and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpoints, and safe rollbacks.
• Make behavior observable via end-to-end traces and replay for debugging and improvements.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points for inspection and resumption.
• Build shared capability by partnering across teams and publishing reusable patterns.
