Sumitomo Drive Technologies in Lufkin, TX seeks an experienced aftermarket design engineer to lead the team and perform senior design work. You will coordinate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver complex projects on time and within quality standards.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, mentoring, and effective prioritization of multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Travel and non-standard hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• Six to eight years of mechanical design experience in rotating equipment/manufacturing.
• Leadership experience and ability to manage cross-functional projects.
• Proficiency with CAD software and engineering analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and daily team leadership for the Aftermarket Design team.
• Perform hands-on design work while balancing team leadership responsibilities.
• Schedule and prioritize projects based on customer needs and priorities.
• Manage throughput, response time, backlog, workload, and deadlines; address risks.
• Lead complex aftermarket design, reverse-engineering, inspection, validation, and nonconformance.
• Coordinate with customers, suppliers, Sales, Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing.
• Review customer specifications, identify exceptions, and ensure designs meet requirements.
• Track workflow metrics and lead process improvement and standardization efforts.
• Travel and work non-standard hours as needed to support time-sensitive requirements.
