Job summary

Sumitomo Drive Technologies USA is seeking an expert Aftermarket Design Engineer III to lead the Aftermarket Design team and deliver complex design projects. This role blends hands-on design work with leadership oversight, scheduling, and cross‑functional collaboration.

You will coordinate daily activities, manage throughput and priorities, and ensure timely delivery while mentoring the team and driving design excellence in a demanding manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; master’s degree preferred.
• Six to eight years of mechanical design experience, preferably in rotating equipment, aftermarket, or manufacturing.
• Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to manage cross‑functional projects and competing priorities.
• Proficiency with CAD software, advanced engineering analysis tools, measuring devices, and reverse‑engineering methods.
• Knowledge of industrial gearbox systems and applicable SMA OEM standards for Hansen and Paramax products.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and daily team leadership for the Aftermarket Design team, including work assignment, mentoring, communication, and accountability.
• Perform hands‑on design work while balancing team‑lead responsibilities and project priorities.
• Schedule and prioritize projects based on customer needs, business priorities, available capacity, and delivery commitments.
• Manage throughput, response time, backlog, workload, engineering release dates, and deadlines; address risks and constraints.
• Lead complex aftermarket design, reverse‑engineering, inspection, validation, and nonconformance activities in accordance with applicable standards.
• Coordinate with customers, suppliers, Sales, Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing to develop solutions, resolve issues, and communicate status.
• Review customer specifications, identify exceptions, and ensure designs meet performance, quality, and delivery expectations.
• Track workflow metrics and lead process improvement and standardization efforts.
• Travel and work non‑standard hours as needed to support time‑sensitive customer requirements.
