Job summary

Collins Aerospace Interiors seeks an experienced engineer to perform complex structural analyses of aerospace components, defining repair designs for metallic and composite structures and coordinating with regulatory authorities for FAA approvals.

The role involves developing engineering methods, improving workflows, and communicating technical findings to leadership and customers. Onsite work with travel up to 10% is required.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies (FAA, FAA ODA, EASA, DOA, etc.) on aircraft level 14 CFR part 21 and part 25 certification projects (PMA, STC).
  • Experience performing static stress analysis using classical methods and finite element analysis.
  • Experience analyzing metallic or advanced composite aerospace structures.
  • Experience with load paths, free body diagrams, load balance, structural sizing, and common aerospace failure modes.
  • Experience independently developing analysis approaches and solve technical problems of increasing complexity.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex structural analyses of aerospace components and products.
  • Define, assess, and document repair designs for metallic, bonded metallic, and advanced composite structures.
  • Work with regulatory authorities to develop repair instructions and support FAA approvals.
  • Analyze repair proposals and prepare engineering reports for customers and certification.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering to identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Develop and implement processes and tools to improve Engineering Production Support workflows.
  • Review technical documentation and provide feedback.
  • Develop or improve engineering methods and automated workflows to increase efficiency.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
