Job summary

Mississippi State University is seeking a detail-oriented cashiering assistant to support accounts services. You will handle payments, balances, and reconciliations while delivering excellent customer service to students, families, and departments.

Under supervision, you will process payments, assist with account questions, ensure FERPA compliance, and help implement new procedures. This on-site role requires strong communication and teamwork in a university setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 3–5 years of relevant experience.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to adhere to FERPA regulations.
• Detail-oriented with reconciliation duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in-person and on the phone with account concerns and payment questions.
• Process payments in the cashiering system and help students/parents interpret balances.
• Process cash receipt vouchers for cash, check, and wire payments to general ledger accounts.
• Record departmental deposit bank receipts to the appropriate general ledger account.
• Balance daily work and perform end-of-day reconciliation.
• Maintain payroll paper check log and distribute payroll checks after direct deposit enrollment verification.
• Assist in implementing new operational procedures.
• Assist in researching and resolving problems related to departmental transactions.
• Verify cashiering documents are imaged properly and stored per guidelines.
• Maintain compliance with security, audit procedures and university policies.
