Job summary

Headway, a Series D company transforming mental healthcare, is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager in the United States to lead day‑to‑day accounting operations during rapid growth.

You will manage a team of four accountants, own month‑end close, financial reporting, and US GAAP policy, and partner with Finance, People, Legal, Data, Product, and Engineering to ensure accurate, timely reporting and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• 10+ years accounting/audit experience with 5+ years in a team leadership role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and month-end close in a high-growth environment.
• Public accounting (Big 4 or large firm) and/or in-house high-growth experience.
• Experience with LLMs/AI to automate processes and improve controls.
• Proven coaching ability and talent development.
• Hands-on experience with Netsuite; familiarity with Ramp and Workday is a plus.
• Strong communicator with ability to influence senior stakeholders across functions.

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a team of 3+ accountants — setting priorities, reviewing work, and coaching on technical accounting.
• Lead automation of workflows using AI/LLMs and drive responsible adoption across the team.
• Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close with accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
• Review and approve entries, reconciliations, and flux analyses.
• Lead technical accounting research and policy setting under US GAAP.
• Support annual audit by coordinating with external auditors and PBC requests.
• Partner with People to oversee payroll accounting and cross‑functional scale‑ups.
• Drive process improvements and technology-driven controls across the function.
• Lead strategic accounting projects with measurable business impact.
