Job summary

Mission Pet Health seeks an experienced accounting professional to lead the month-end close for complex areas, perform reconciliations, and analyze variances. You will support leadership with financial statements, document non-routine GAAP transactions, and help build SOX controls.

You will mentor junior staff and drive process improvements using Workday and Excel. The role emphasizes accuracy, autonomy, and cross-team collaboration within a fast-growing veterinary network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or a combination of both.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP with demonstrated ability to apply it to complex or non-routine transactions.
• Advanced Excel skills with experience analyzing large datasets.
• CPA license or active CPA candidate is preferred.
• Workday Financials experience is preferred.
• Experience in a multi-site, high-growth, or private equity-backed environment is preferred; healthcare or veterinary industry experience a plus.
• Experience reviewing the work of and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close for assigned complex areas, preparing and reviewing journal entries.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring reconciling items are investigated and resolved timely.
• Perform monthly flux and variance analysis of the income statement and balance sheet, clearly explaining drivers to management.
• Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and reporting packages for leadership.
• Research and document the accounting treatment of non-routine transactions under U.S. GAAP, drafting position memos as needed.
• Design, document, and maintain internal controls over assigned processes in support of SOX readiness.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned audit areas; prepare PBC schedules and respond to auditor inquiries.
• Ensure audit documentation is complete, accurate, and delivered on schedule.
• Review the work of Staff Accountants, providing coaching, training, and constructive feedback.
• Lead process improvement and automation initiatives across Workday, Excel, and related tools.
• Manage ad hoc projects and requests with an innovative approach and superior attention to detail.
