Overview
A mission-driven organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This role is responsible for advanced accounting functions with a focus on grant management, government contracts, and fund accounting. The Senior Accountant will ensure compliance with GAAP, HUD and funder requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations while supporting the organization’s mission through accurate financial reporting and strategic support to leadership.
Base pay range
$68,000.00/yr - $75,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting for multiple funds, grants, and government contracts
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and funder reports
- Partner with program leaders on budgets, modifications, and forecasts
- Reconcile accounts, process journal entries, and oversee inter-fund transactions
- Monitor receivables/payables and follow up on outstanding invoices
- Oversee housing subsidy payments and Section 8 HAP systems
- Strengthen fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Support month-end/year-end close, budget prep, and special projects
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
- 4+ years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund/grant accounting, and HUD compliance
- Proficiency with NetSuite and advanced Excel skills
- Experience with audits and government contract reporting
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team, meeting tight deadlines
