Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support complex accounting, financial reporting, reconciliation, and compliance activities for a public-sector housing organization in Milwaukee. The role supports public housing, Capital Fund, LIHTC, mixed-finance, and related-entity operations, with a strong focus on consolidation, intercompany accounting, HUD reporting, and audit support.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules for the organization and related entities.
- Prepare consolidation workbooks, intercompany reconciliations, elimination entries, and supporting disclosures.
- Perform complex reconciliations involving cash, reserves, development activity, debt, grants, and related-party transactions.
- Support LIHTC and mixed-finance accounting, including partnership activity, development costs, reserves, and project reporting.
- Perform accounting and reporting for public housing, Capital Fund programs, and related HUD funding sources.
- Lead assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Prepare audit schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation and respond to auditor requests.
- Assist with HUD financial reporting, FDS submissions, grant reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to accounting staff and recommend improvements to controls, processes, and reporting accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, including financial statement preparation and complex reconciliations.
- Experience with governmental, public-sector, nonprofit, affordable-housing, real-estate, or property-management accounting.
- Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following: LIHTC or mixed-finance accounting; public housing or HUD grant accounting; component-unit reporting; consolidation; Capital Fund accounting; external audit support; FDS reporting.
- Strong Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, and financial-analysis workbooks.
- Strong communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CGFM, or comparable professional credential.
- Experience with HUD public housing, HCV, Capital Fund, RAD, LIHTC, HOME, or other federally funded housing programs.
- Knowledge of GASB reporting, HUD FDS reporting, 2 CFR Part 200, and Single Audit requirements.
- Experience with limited-partnership or LLC accounting, construction accounting, project reserves, and related-party transactions.
Compensation will be between $34-48/hr
