Job summary

CalPortland in California is seeking a Senior Accountant to handle mid-level accounting duties, including month-end close, journal entries, and financial analysis. This role supports corporate and operations teams with accurate reporting and timely closes.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency in Excel; SAP experience is preferred. Willingness to work extended hours during month-end or audits is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare recurring monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate support and prepare manual JEs for corporate departments.
• Complete duties according to the month-end close schedule.
• Prepare and maintain amortization schedules.
• Prepare annual budgets for operating expenses.
• Prepare AdHoc reports and analysis for management and operations.
• Prepare audit schedules and respond to external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and JSOX requirements.
• Provide leadership support to accounting team members.
• Assist with management reporting and financial statement schedules.

The Senior Accountant supports a variety of mid-level accounting duties, which include both day-to-day activities and long-term projects.

Responsibilities

Duties may include:

• Prepare recurring monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, investigate discrepanices, and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Coordinate support and prepare necassary manual JEs on behalf of corporate departments
• Complete assigned duties according to the month-end close schedule
• Prepare and maintain amortization schedules
• Prepare annual budgets for assigned corporate-designated operating expenses
• Prepare ADHOC reports and analysis for managment and operations
• Prepare audit schedules and complete requests from external auditors during quarterly and year-end audits
• Properly execute controls to ensure compliance with JSOX
• Demonstrate leadership and provide support as needed to members of the accounting team
• Assist with management reporting, financail analysis, and the preparation of schedules supporting financal statements

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related degree with experience in accounting

Requirements/Qualifications

• Knowledge of GAAP financial reporting
• Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Self-starter and strong work ethic
• Demonstrated technical accounting skills, including the ability to research accounting guidance, evaluate trasactions, and document conclusions.
• Team-player and flexible
• Available to work extended hours and potentionally weekends as needed to meet month-end or audit deadlines

Preferred:

• Experience in the construction materials industry
• Experience with SAP
