Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Communications Coordinator to oversee the Emergency Communications Center operations, supervise 911 staff, and ensure compliance with federal and state laws. The role requires experience in 911 operations, strong communication skills, and a Texas driver’s license.

You will manage scheduling, training, and performance evaluations while coordinating with public safety partners to maintain high-quality dispatch services.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five years in emergency dispatch or related law enforcement experience.
• TCOLE Advanced or Master Telecommunications Operator Certification.
• Knowledge of TLETS; 911 operations; DOS/Windows and PC hardware.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Criti-call dispatcher test and data-entry/dispatch simulation test score requirements.
• Typing speed minimum of 35 wpm.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing.
• Interpersonal, supervisory and time-management abilities.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and enforce policies for the Emergency Communications Center.
• Serve as liaison with public, law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel; build cooperative relationships.
• Supervise and evaluate 911 staff; provide feedback to ensure quality service; ensure compliance with laws and procedures.
• Schedule personnel and ensure shifts are adequately staffed; manage disciplinary processes as needed.
• Operate CAD and TCIC/NCIC databases; maintain confidentiality of information.
• Respond to inquiries or complaints; coordinate with agencies and determine resolutions.
