Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree may substitute for supervisory experience.
• Six years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with two years in a supervisory role.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, direct, and manage the security shift and duty activities.
• Supervise, inspect, and enforce perimeter and internal security measures.
• Prepare, submit, and monitor reports as required by policy.
• Direct security resources for optimal protection and safety.
• Secure institutional buildings and state property.
• Train and evaluate subordinates to meet state laws and agency policies.
• Control, issue, and use weapons, keys, and security devices.
• Inspect posts, interview and counsel inmates as needed for safety.
