Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Shift Supervisor to lead and manage daily security operations. You will oversee staffing, guard duties, and compliance with state policies across shifts, ensuring the security of buildings and state property.

You will train and supervise staff, prepare reports for command, and coordinate resources to maximize safety and security. Certification through SCDC Training Academy is required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; six years of supervisory experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Schedules, directs, and manages the employment and duty activities of a security shift.
• Supervises, inspects and ensures proper perimeter and internal security and control measures are in effect and enforced.
• Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by the chain of command and policy.
• Direct and redirects security resource for optimum security and safety.
• Ensure that institutional buildings and state property are properly secured.
• Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance is in accordance with state laws and agency policies.
• Ensures proper control, issue, and use of weapons, keys, security devices and agency equipment.
• Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed. Interviews and counsels inmates as necessary to ensure maximum safety and security.
