Job summary

Westhab, Inc. seeks a Safety Security Officer for the Van Cortlandt Park shelter, afternoon shift. You will patrol, monitor, control access, and respond to incidents to keep clients, staff and property safe.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, NYS Security Guard License, 8-Hour Annual Certificate, Fire Guard License for Shelters, CPI preferred. Flex shifts, weekends and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and prior security experience required.
• Must have NYS Security Guard License, and current 8 Hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters.
• Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred.
• Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends and overtime if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of clients’ rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening clients and visitors with magnetometer/x-ray to prevent weapons entering the site.
• Perform crisis interventions to de-escalate potential crises and document them.
