Job summary

Nebraska Furniture Mart Inc. is seeking a Security Officer in the Kansas City area to provide a visible presence, protect people and property, and support staff across stores.

You will greet customers and vendors, assist with wheelchairs and carts, monitor entryways, respond to emergencies and incidents, patrol parking areas, and conduct basic investigations and security surveys to help keep our stores safe and welcoming.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to engage customers professionally.
• Remain flexible to changing environments and adapt to situations.
• Stamina to stand for long periods.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Certification in OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) foam deployment within one year (Nebraska & Kansas only).
• Complete NFM Response to Resistance and First Responder training within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to obtain a non-commissioned security officer license within 30 days (Texas only).
• Ability to work night, weekend and/or early morning hours as needed.
• Pre-employment screening includes drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

Pay Range: $17.41 - $21.15 hourly

NFM is looking for a Security Officer to provide an authoritative presence to ensure a safe and secure environment, while protecting company property and staff.

Job Duties: A Day in the Life

• Greet: Welcome all customers, visitors and vendors and assist them in locating staff within the stores
• Support: Issue electric handicapped shopping carts to customers and provide assistance in obtaining wheel chairs and shopping carts
• Monitor: Examine and properly tag property being brought into the stores
• Assess: React as necessary and assist in handling any situations – shoplifting, medical emergencies and inclement weather
• Patrol: Watch facilities and parking areas on foot or in a vehicle. Direct traffic during special events or heavy customer traffic, while enforcing parking regulations
• Assist: Help customers and staff with vehicle break-downs and lock-outs and retrieve shopping carts from parking areas
• Report: Conduct preliminary investigations, audits and security surveys and document the findings

• Ability to obtain a non-commissioned security officer license within thirty (30) days of employment (Texas only)
• Ability to work night, weekend and/or early morning hours based on business needs
