Job summary

Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM) is seeking a part-time Security Officer to provide a visible security presence, protect property, and support staff across our Omaha stores.

You will greet customers, assist with carts and mobility aids, monitor entrances, respond to incidents, patrol facilities, and document findings. Evening or weekend availability and a Nebraska driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to engage customers professionally.
• Flexible to changing environments and situations.
• Stamina to stand long periods.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• OC foam deployment certification within 1 year.
• Complete required training within 90 days.
• Licensing requirement for Texas only.
• Night/weekend/early morning availability.
• Pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, visitors, and vendors and guide them to staff.
• Assist with electric handicapped carts and wheelchairs.
• Monitor and tag property brought into the stores.
• Respond to shoplifting, medical emergencies, and weather events.
• Patrol facilities and parking areas; direct traffic during events.
• Assist customers with vehicle issues and retrieve carts.
• Document investigations, audits, and security surveys.

Job Description: Your Piece of the Puzzle

NFM is looking for a Security Officer to provide an authoritative presence to ensure a safe and secure environment, while protecting company property and staff.

Job Duties: A Day in the Life

• Greet: Welcome all customers, visitors and vendors and assist them in locating staff within the stores
• Support: Issue electric handicapped shopping carts to customers and provide assistance in obtaining wheel chairs and shopping carts
• Monitor: Examine and properly tag property being brought into the stores
• Assess: React as necessary and assist in handling any situations – shoplifting, medical emergencies and inclement weather
• Patrol: Watch facilities and parking areas on foot or in a vehicle. Direct traffic during special events or heavy customer traffic, while enforcing parking regulations
• Assist: Help customers and staff with vehicle break-downs and lock-outs and retrieve shopping carts from parking areas
• Report: Conduct preliminary investigations, audits and security surveys and document the findings

• High School Diploma/GED preferred
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to consistently engage customers in a professional manner
• Remain flexible to ever changing environments and adapt to different situations
• Stamina to stand for long periods of time
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Certification in OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) foam deployment within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification standards (Nebraska & Kansas only)
• Satisfactorily complete NFM Response to Resistance and First Responder training courses within ninety (90) days of employment
• Ability to obtain a non-commissioned security officer license within thirty (30) days of employment (Texas only)
• Ability to work night, weekend and/or early morning hours based on business needs
• Pre-employment screening includes, but isn't limited to, drug screen and criminal background check
