Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library seeks a Security Officer, Rover to provide flexible security coverage across multiple library branches in Columbus, OH. The role is full-time, non-exempt, with evening and weekend shifts.

You will patrol, deter theft, respond to incidents, assist customers, and coordinate with local authorities to maintain a safe environment for patrons and staff.

Starting pay is $19.20 to $20.20 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits package and participation in OPERS retirement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• 1-3 years of relevant customer service or security experience or training required.
• Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to carry and use OC (pepper spray) training and in appropriate situations.
• Flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, with rotational on-call duties.
• Ability to respond to assignment changes with professionalism and maintain effective working relationships across locations.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to travel between assigned locations.

Responsibilities

• Reports to assigned branch based on daily operational and staffing needs.
• Patrols buildings and grounds to prevent theft and ensure safety.
• Use de-escalation techniques to handle disruptive or inappropriate behavior and enforce post orders.
• Greet customers, answer questions, and participate in organization-wide initiatives.
• Respond to safety hazards, incidents, and emergencies, including reviewing CCTV footage.
• Ensure building security at closing and complete closing checklists.
• Maintain professional appearance and report equipment needs to Security management.
• Collaborate with law enforcement as needed and assist with emergency drills.
