Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is hiring a Security Officer at the Driving Park Branch. This full-time role runs 40 hours with a schedule including weekdays and some weekends; starting pay range is $19.20–$20.20 hourly, commensurate with experience.

As part of Protective Service, you will patrol facilities, de-escalate conflicts, greet customers, and respond to hazards or emergencies while ensuring a safe environment. The job requires flexibility and reliable transportation to multiple locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of relevant customer service or security experience or training.
• Valid driver license may be required depending on branch location.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
• Ability to operate library technology including Windows/Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds and prevents theft. Follows post orders.
• Use de-escalation techniques to handle disruptive behavior.
• Greet customers and answer questions to support a positive experience.
• Respond to safety hazards, incidents, and emergencies; review CCTV as needed.
• Ensure building is secure at closing and staff/customers depart safely.
• Maintain uniform and equipment in good condition; report needs promptly.
• Collaborate with law enforcement as needed and file reports.
