Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Security Officer for the Southeast Branch on a part-time schedule. The role focuses on safeguarding patrons, staff, and property while delivering a positive customer experience.

Starting pay is $19.20–$20.20 hourly, commensurate with experience. The position offers diverse benefits and requires flexibility, including weekends and evenings. Internal candidates operate under the library's compensation policy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years of relevant customer service or security experience or training.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Flexible schedule including weekends and evenings; rotation on-call duties.
• Ability to operate library technology and basic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds; prevents theft and follows post orders.
• Uses de-escalation techniques to address disruptive behavior.
• Greet customers and assist with directions and inquiries.
• Responds to safety hazards, incidents, or emergencies and reports them.
• Ensure the building is secure at closing and staff/customers depart safely.
• Maintain a professional appearance and report equipment needs.
