Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is hiring a Security Officer at Parsons Branch in Columbus, OH. The role is full-time, 40 hours weekly, with a starting pay range of $19.20–$20.20 hourly commensurate with experience.

You will patrol, deter theft, assist customers, and coordinate with management in safety and security operations at the Parsons Branch location. A strong commitment to diversity and customer service underpins daily duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• 1-3 years of relevant customer service or security experience or training required.
• Ability to utilize reliable transportation to report to job assignment and other locations; driver license may be required.
• Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to carry and use OC spray after training and in appropriate situations.
• Flexible schedule including weekends and evenings; rotational on-call duties.
• Ability to patrol on foot and use stairs during shift; respond quickly to incidents.
• Operate library technology and office software.

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds; prevent theft and follow post orders.
• Use non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Greet customers and answer questions; participate in organization initiatives.
• Respond to safety hazards or emergencies; review CCTV as needed.
• Ensure building is secure at closing and staff and customers depart safely.
• Maintain a professional appearance; report uniform needs.
