Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Security Officer at the Parsons Branch to help create a safe, welcoming environment for patrons and staff. The role involves frequent patrols, incident response, and assisting with emergencies while maintaining a professional presence.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, with on-site duties and a starting pay range of $19.20–$20.20 per hour, commensurate with experience. A strong commitment to safety and customer service is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years of relevant customer service or security experience or training required.
• Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds regularly and prevents theft.
• Uses non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
• Greets customers and answers questions to support a positive experience.
• Responds to safety hazards, incidents, and emergencies and documents incidents.
• Ensures building security at closing and assists with evacuations when needed.
• Maintains professional appearance and equipment readiness on duty.
• Assists with security equipment testing and reports needs.
• Collaborates with law enforcement and participates in drills and training.
