Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Security Officer I for its DeKalb area. The role is full-time on the second shift, 1500-2330, Friday through Tuesday with Wednesdays and Thursdays off.

You will protect patients, visitors, and associates, perform patrols, respond to incidents, and ensure compliance with policies and safety procedures. Qualifications include a high-school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and relevant certifications (IAHSS exam and Basic Life Support).

Qualifications

• Education: High-school diploma or GED.
• Licensure: Valid driver’s license.
• Certification: IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire; Basic Life Support certification; Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Investigates/quells hospital incidents and disturbances to maintain patient, visitor, and employee security.
• Notifies appropriate city officials (police and fire) and prepares descriptive reports for supervisory personnel.
• Performs regular perimeter and internal patrols of the hospital buildings and grounds.
• Conducts investigations into incidents of hazardous conditions, theft, and safety issues.
• Monitors access control system, alarms, and video system.
• Controls traffic to assure access for emergency vehicles and visitors.
• Provides escorts for staff to their vehicles.
• Delivers deceased bodies to the morgue and releases to authorized persons.
• Responds to emergency codes per guidelines.
• Enforces hospital policies and presents professional image.
