The State Fair showcases and promotes the state's agriculture, agribusiness, arts and crafts and culture through the annual agricultural fair as well as leases fairground property, on a short-term basis, during non-fair times to the best interests of the public.

Duties include conducting routine patrols on property to detect and prevent fire, theft and vandalism, detecting and reporting safety hazards observed on property, responding to calls for service on property, responding to complaints, providing security for over 200 acres of property and over twenty buildings, and managing and directing traffic on the property during events. This employee will also assist Law Enforcement Officers with criminal investigations that occur on NCDA&CS properties.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Knowledge of standard safety, surveillance and security practices and equipment.
  • Knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations applicable to properties sufficient to recognize and report situations that may be in violation.
  • Knowledge of standard methods of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances, fires, medical concerns and security threats.
  • Must possess a valid NC Driver's License (at the time of hire).
In Addition, Qualified Applicants Should Have
  • Ability to use security equipment (i.e., radios, switchboards/phones, flashlights, fire extinguishers, surveillance cameras, alarm panels, card access, or other electronic security systems).
  • Ability to patrol, monitor, and guard assigned area and respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, supervisors, and the public to provide assistance and relay information and follow instructions.
  • Ability to formulate reports using Microsoft Office, Email, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, manage and direct traffic flow, climb stairs and work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to collect currency, make change, issue receipts and audit collections.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends
Management Preferences

Management prefers experience in monitoring, operating, downloading, printing and reviewing camera footage on a closed loop (Internal) CCTV system and experience working in large venues or fairs with attendance over 50,000 people.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require the ability to complete emergency medical technician (EMT) training and meet re-certification standards as required.
