Job Description
The Remote Security Officer provides services for a variety of large and small business clients in remote settings where health, safety, and security are our #1 priority. All duties are to be performed in accordance with NMS’ mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Personally monitors and patrols either visually or electronically a variety of assigned buildings, areas, or grounds.
- Permits only properly authorized individuals to enter the property.
- Patrols premises and examines doors, windows, and gates to determine they are secure.
- Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, etc.
- Warns violators of rule infractions and may apprehend or expel violators.
- Notifies on-site individuals of visitors wishing to see them.
- Assists in properly responding to a variety of emergencies or disasters to preserve life and property.
- Operates camp billeting and access control systems and maintains a list of visitors or authorized personnel who are allowed access to various areas.
- May check heating, lighting, sprinkling, security, ventilation, fire, etc., systems to ensure they are operational.
- Provides transportation services using a variety of vehicles, including standard passenger vehicles, large passenger buses, and off-road vehicles.
- Provides emergency medical intervention including CPR, AED, and patient movement.
- Notifies supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
- Performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success as assigned.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. Individuals prevented from vaccination due to medical or religious reasons will work with Human Resources to evaluate their situation.
- At least three (3) years of full-time professional security, law enforcement, or military experience. Post-secondary education in a related field may substitute for experience.
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years.
- Ability to obtain and pay the Alaska Guard License fee of $97.00 prior to employment.
- Must obtain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License upon hire.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and contract-specific software.
- Pass all pre-employment requirements, including drug tests, physical and fit-for-duty assessments, and hearing tests. Applicants must cover travel costs if testing facilities are distant.
- Ability to live in dormitory-style settings and meet cleanliness standards.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ability to make decisions independently with little supervision.
- Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Adherence to all safety guidelines and regulations.
Residing outside Anchorage:
Employees in the Lower 48 or hired for BP contracts are responsible for travel expenses to Anchorage for pre-employment testing, excluding drug testing which is conducted near their residence. They must also meet all pre-employment training and testing requirements.
Employees in Alaska for Alyeska and Hillcorp contracts will have testing scheduled near their residence unless no local providers are available.
Travel to remote locations: Employees cover expenses for reporting to Anchorage for scheduled company trips to remote sites.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoor/Outdoor, frequently Arctic conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
Environment: Kanakanak Community Health Clinic, Dillingham, Alaska.
Must be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch constantly.
Physical requirements: Fit For Duty Test
- Lift 20 lbs. from floor to knuckle x 2.
- Lift 20 lbs. from floor to waist x 2.
- Carry 20 lbs. for at least 20 feet.
- Kneel on one knee and stand, then switch knees, repeated 3 times per knee.
- Stand from a supine position while wearing arctic gear, safely and without assistance, three times.
- Perform cross-over toe touches x 5 each side.
- Walk on a treadmill at 3 MPH for 10 minutes.
- Climb up and down 10 steps, twice.
