Job Opportunity: Security Officer at the State Fair

Note: This is a readvertisement. All previous applicants MUST reapply to be considered.

The State Fair promotes the state's agriculture, arts, crafts, and culture through an annual event and leases fairground property during non-fair times to serve the public's interests.

Job Responsibilities

1. Conduct routine patrols to detect and prevent fire, theft, and vandalism.
2. Detect and report safety hazards observed on the property.
3. Respond to calls for service and complaints.
4. Provide security for over 200 acres of property and more than twenty buildings.
5. Manage and direct traffic during events.
6. Assist Law Enforcement Officers with criminal investigations on NCDA&CS properties.

Qualifications

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with minimum education and experience, are REQUIRED:

• Knowledge of safety, surveillance, and security practices and equipment.
• Knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations related to properties.
• Knowledge of emergency reporting and handling methods.
• Valid NC Driver's License at the time of hire.

Additional qualifications include:

• Ability to use security equipment such as radios, surveillance cameras, alarm panels, etc.
• Ability to patrol, monitor, and respond to emergencies.
• Effective communication skills with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, work in inclement weather, and manage traffic.
• Ability to handle monetary transactions and issue receipts.
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends.

Preferred Experience

Experience with CCTV systems and large venue or fair security with attendance over 50,000 is preferred.

Additional Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience. EMT training may be required. Employment offers may be less than the maximum salary based on experience and education.
