Job summary

Sayres & Associates, LLC is seeking an experienced Marine Engineer in Mobile, AL, with an active SECRET clearance tracked in DISS. You will support the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team as a SME for vessel design, systems integration, and shipboard testing.

Responsibilities include design reviews, in-service engineering, and installation support while coordinating with shipyards and classification societies to ensure SOLAS, MARPOL, and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or related field and 7+ years of design experience for work packages, in-service mods, and ship systems integration.
• Experience with deck systems, structures, and shipboard auxiliary systems.
• Understanding hull integration, mechanical stress, and equipment placement.
• Familiar with corrosion-resistant materials for harsh marine environments.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and marine power engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD tools and electrical schematics for automation and monitoring.
• Experience with shipboard electrical networks, switchboards, and control systems (PLC/SCADA).
• Experience with FMEA, fault-tree analysis, and vibration analysis for diagnosing issues.
• Knowledge of electrical power generation, distribution, and emergency generators.
• Experience with engine-room automation, feedback loops, and digital control systems.
• Ability to liaise with shipyards, classification societies, and cross-disciplinary teams.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Active SECRET clearance verifiable in DISS/JPAS or ability to obtain interim SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide SME marine engineering support throughout shipbuilding from concept studies to preliminary design.
• Collaborate on contract design activities and detail design and construction execution.
• Conduct independent design reviews to optimize ship systems for safety and efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance for in-service ship design and ongoing engineering activities.
• Offer shipboard installation support for equipment and systems integration.
• Participate in studies related to ships, boats, and shipboard equipment for continuous improvement.
• Mentor junior marine engineering staff and coordinate across disciplines.
