Job summary

State of Michigan is hiring several limited-term Transportation Maintenance Worker positions for the Bay Region, primarily performing maintenance on state trunk lines in the assigned area. These roles require operating heavy vehicles and equipment (GVWR 26,001+), and are full-time during the Oct-Apr period with no guaranteed hours beyond that.

Candidates must obtain or already hold a Commercial Driver's License Group A with N or X endorsement and pass a pre-employment drug test.

Qualifications

• Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 12 months of hire for Recruit, and must be maintained throughout employment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding winter maintenance tasks and operate heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain state trunk lines within the assigned Bay Region and county area.
• Operate equipment with GVWR 26,001+ as part of maintenance tasks.
• Participate in the Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) Work Element Program.
• May work across regions or MDOT facilities to meet operational needs.
• Pass pre-employment drug test and background checks; comply with drug/alcohol testing policies.
