Job summary

State of Minnesota is seeking Temporary Snowplow Operators under MnDOT District 6 to cover snow and ice seasons at multiple district truck stations in Albert Lea, Austin, Dresbach, Owatonna, Red Wing, Rochester, Stewartville, and Winona.

Shifts may include A (12:00am–12:00pm) or B (12:00pm–12:00am) with possible overtime. Temporary positions can be full-time/part-time; emergency incumbents fill in for unavailable operators and may work nights, weekends, holidays.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position and maintain it as a condition of employment.
• Incumbent must pass pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, amphetamines and acetyl morphine (6‑AM).
• Incumbent must be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanup.
• Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals.
• Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replaces mailboxes.
• Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
• Performs traffic control set‑ups and notifies dispatch of disabled vehicles.
