Position Description

Are you detail oriented? Do you like to problem-solve to ensure equipment is working effectively and efficiently? The Seasonal Maintenance Worker maintains the appearance and cleanliness of county facilities managed by the Facilities Management and Construction Department. They perform general upkeep of facilities and minor scheduled maintenance activities. Work is performed during Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. This position will have a new and different work environment every day and will perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks for the safety, comfort, security, and beautification of facilities County-wide.

The temporary Seasonal Maintenance Worker performs work under general supervision and possesses a solid working knowledge of subject matter, handles moderately complex issues and problems associated with maintenance of county facilities, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. This position will have a new and different work environment every day and will perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks for the safety, comfort, security, and beautification of facilities county-wide.

The Anoka County Facilities Management and Construction Department is committed to providing the highest standard of excellence in keeping all county facilities safe, clean, comfortable, and with a well-maintained environment.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, temporary position. Interviews will take place as applications are received for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

  • Salary: $31,408 to $35,318 ($15.10 to $16.98 per hour).
  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 16. $31,408 to $39,228 ($15.10 to $18.86 per hour).
  • Medical and dental clinic exclusive to employees, located at the Anoka County Government Center.

Work Location

  • This position will work at Anoka County properties.
  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County temporary Seasonal Maintenance Worker.

  • Provide general maintenance for county facilities including general upkeep, minor repairs on lavatories, door functionality, and painting.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning for County facilities, including cleaning restrooms, power washing, and mowing, landscaping, and weeding.
  • Perform light repairs and maintenance of lighting, HVAC systems, and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing leaks, plugged drains, and replace minor fixtures.
  • Receive work order requests and prioritize in order of urgency.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 2 years of job-related experience.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Previous maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of and ability to use power and hand tools
  • Ability to prioritize workloads based on urgency

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor county worksites in all weather conditions depending on assignment
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds
  • Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing
  • Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, prolonged walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment
  • Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties
  • Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills
  • Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various park maintenance equipment depending on assignment
  • Park maintenance equipment may include but is not limited to hand and power tools, shovels, sledgehammer, post hole diggers, weed whips, ladders, wheelbarrows, various light and heavy equipment, chemicals, personal protective equipment, and weather appropriate gear
  • Driving is required for this position and staff must have the ability to use a variety of mowers, tractors, pickup trucks, UTV’s, and boats
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties
  • Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle
