Job summary

Charles Schwab is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the Retail Web Technology team in Austin. You will design, build, and maintain automation frameworks to ensure scalable, secure, and client-focused software delivery across web apps, APIs, and microservices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years in SDET, software engineering, or quality engineering roles
• Strong software development experience with C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience designing scalable automation frameworks and quality engineering solutions
• Hands-on with modern automation tools (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress) and API testing tools
• Familiar with CI/CD, Agile, DevOps, TDD/BDD, and release automation
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and observability tools
• Experience with cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and JIRA/GitHub workflows

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks and libraries for web apps, APIs, and microservices
• Build automated validation for functional, integration, and end-to-end testing
• Develop test strategies aligned to architecture and workflows
• Drive shift-left quality by partnering with engineers during design and development
• Integrate automated validation into CI/CD pipelines for rapid feedback
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to testability and quality metrics
• Perform performance, resiliency, and security testing as part of quality program
• Leverage AI-assisted testing tools to improve productivity and coverage
• Collaborate with product owners and teams to improve testability and reliability
• Monitor production readiness with observability dashboards and incident analysis
