Job summary
Charles Schwab Corporation is hiring an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the Retail Web Technology team in Austin. The role focuses on building scalable automation, validating APIs, and driving quality across distributed systems.
You will partner with engineers, product owners, and operations to embed quality throughout the SDLC, leverage AI-powered tooling, and contribute to reliability and observability initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience in Software Development Engineering in Test (SDET) or quality engineering roles.
- Current working experience with Schwab systems and processes.
- Strong software development experience using C#, .NET, JavaScript, TypeScript and OO design principles.
- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable automation frameworks and quality engineering solutions.
- Hands-on experience with modern automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent frameworks.
- Experience testing RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and distributed architectures with tools like Postman or REST Assured.
- Experience with performance and resiliency testing using JMeter, k6, LoadRunner, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, TDD/BDD and continuous testing practices.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data validation, troubleshooting and performance analysis.
- Experience with observability/monitoring platforms like Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics.
- Experience leveraging AI-powered engineering tools (GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted testing).",
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks and reusable test libraries for web apps, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Build automated validation solutions for functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, accessibility, and cross-browser testing.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies aligned to workflows, architecture, and dependencies.
- Drive shift-left quality by partnering with engineering during requirements, design, and development phases.
- Implement risk-based testing to improve coverage, efficiency, and release confidence.
- Contribute production-quality code using modern software engineering principles and secure coding practices.

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our engineering team. This role combines strong software engineering skills with modern quality engineering practices to ensure the delivery of resilient, scalable, secure, and client-centric solutions.
As an SDET, you will design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks, quality engineering tools, test infrastructure, and continuous validation capabilities that enable rapid and reliable software delivery. You will partner closely with software engineers, product owners, business analysts, architects, and platform teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
Beyond traditional test automation, you will drive quality strategy, improve engineering productivity, leverage AI-assisted development practices, and strengthen operational excellence through observability, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks and reusable test libraries supporting web applications, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
